Road Trips As A Kid
Growing up as a family of 5, and eventually 6, road trips were the only reasonable way to travel each summer as plane tickets alone could get quite pricey when buying 5 or 6! Our destinations included: South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, and a bit into Canada – Victoria and Vancouver. Some places were visited more than once. I must say that, even as a kid, I did appreciate and love the beauty of the west coast. The cooler temperatures in the summer also played a part in being able to enjoy the sites.
I think out of all of the places we visited as a kid, Utah in the summer was definitely my least favorite (that was before visiting Moab as an adult). Wyoming was quite boring as well until we reached Yellowstone National Park. However, after a two-day visit as an adult, I discovered some beauty that Wyoming has to offer! South Dakota was great for families that we took that trip maybe 3 times when I was a kid and then went again in college, just to relive the memories! Nevada was always hot, but we sure did enjoy buffets in Vegas and the kid-friendly shows at the different hotels (I wouldn’t really recommend Vegas with kids, though lol).
I will share more details of the trips taken as a kid and while I might not have recommendations for food, I still remember what I enjoyed in each spot. That will hopefully give some insight into what your kids might enjoy and if a kid can appreciate the beauty in nature, it must be something to see as an adult as well!
